School Reports

At Libra we understand the importance of sharing information with you as parents and carers the progress your child is making. In order to do this we use both formal and informal reporting. 

Informal reporting: 

We adopt an open door policy for parents and carers to contact the school with any questions you have about both the emotional and educational progress your child is making and any concerns that you may have. School adults make themselves available to speak to you on the telephone, by emails or if necessary, to come into school to have a chat.

Every day your child will bring home a daily report which provides written feedback to you on how their day has been, what has gone well as well as what we need to work on, and any other information your child’s staff and tutor feel is relevant. The aim of this daily report is to give you information  to chat with your child about how their day has been because inevitably if you ask what they did they say nothing! Please try to remember that we are expecting to work with behaviours that might not be as good as we would like them to be yet. If your child has not had their best day, please use the daily report to give you the facts of what actually happened and talk through a plan to make tomorrow a better day. There is no need for any further sanctions. If we feel that further sanctions for behaviour are needed, we will discuss this with you.

We operate an open door policy so encourage you to come and speak with us if you have any concerns or worries or if you would just like to see how your child is doing.  Your child’s tutor is your first point of contact and they will be in touch with you regularly throughout the school week. We also offer 2 formal opportunities per year, one in the Autumn term and one in the Summer term where you are invited to make appointments with your child’s teachers to come in and talk face to face about how they are getting on. It is also an opportunity for you to meet with other families over a cup of tea and biscuit. Children love their parents and carers to visit and it is great for their self-esteem and confidence to show you their work. If you cannot make this visit face-to-face, we can schedule a teams meeting online.

Formal reporting: 

At the end of every term (3 times per year) you will receive  a detailed end of term report that reflects upon your child’s attitude to their learning under the headings of collaboration with peers, concentration within a lesson, respect towards peers and respect towards adults. In addition this report will provide detailed information by subject teachers and reflects the progress your child has made over the last whole term, strengths and difficulties, and next steps to develop learning further. This is accompanied by a progress report which charts your child’s numerical progress as a decimalised score charting it from when they started at Libra, the start of the current academic year, the actual assessed level they are currently working at, and the predicted target for the end of the academic year. Both these reports support information shared for Local Authority meetings such as EHCP reviews and PEPs.

We encourage all parents and carers to make getting a school report a ‘big deal’. Encourage your child to sit with you to read the report and positively discuss the content. Celebrate success and positively support in areas requiring any improvement. Use the opportunity to talk with your child about how you can support them at home to make further progress.
