About Us

Our vision is to enable all children to achieve their full potential in a safe, welcoming, happy and innovative learning environment. We will strive to create responsible citizens who are independent and confident lifelong learners equipped to meet the challenges of a changing future. This will be achieved within an inclusive school that values every individual and celebrates the diversity of our community.

PRINCIPAL STATEMENT

I am delighted to welcome you to the Libra School and am privileged to be the Principal of this vibrant centre of learning. Our website can only give you a flavour of the values and beliefs that we hold as a community and I hope if you are considering us for your child, that it will inspire you to arrange a visit into school to find out more about us.

I am passionate about education and believe that all children should be inspired to develop their talents and skills; to be challenged to strive to be the best they can be, but above all develop a thirst for learning that will stay with them throughout their lives. I strongly believe that we must continue to focus on offering a curriculum that prepares children for future careers, alongside using their talent and energy to develop fully and contribute positively to the global community.

I believe that in order to support children to be happy, challenged and resilient our curriculum must be underpinned by the strongest foundations of discipline, pride in oneself and community as well as a focus on ensuring the basics such as; respect, tolerance, compassion, literacy, numeracy, personal learning outside school hours and knowing the difference between right and wrong.

The Libra School is a unique school where a child centred learning approach is combined with an imaginative therapeutic environment, a rich range of outdoor learning and creative educational experiences.

I am very proud of our standards of behaviour and work, and together with my team of school adults, we are totally committed to the full development of our children.

LIBRA SCHOOL FOUNDED

Libra is owned by Blackford Education (Schools) Ltd and Joan and Alan remain directors of this company to this day.

Registered for 50 children

Aged from 5 years to 18 years

The Libra School at Heasley Mill, near North Molton in North Devon is registered for 50 children aged from 5 years to 18 years although most children move to higher education after Year 11. Our school specialises in supporting highly vulnerable young children on day education placements who are experiencing great difficulties within mainstream or in other specialist schools to help them bring about positive personal change quickly. At the Libra School children who have felt alone and alienated within their previous school settings feel a sense of belonging, security and acceptance.

The Libra School is able to offer a unique, highly specialised and therapeutic level of education to children who present a range of educational and behavioural challenges. We are extremely proud of the huge amount of academic progress our children at Libra are making and the very positive changes parents and carers are seeing in the social and emotional behaviours of the children after only being with Libra for a small amount of time.

Libra school adults strive every day to provide education for children that is holistic and encompassing, that addresses each child’s individuality and which provides challenge and opportunity to empower them to achieve their potential, providing each child with a balanced and harmonious lifestyle.

We seek to promote resilience and aspiration in our children and prepare them for a life beyond Libra which may involve transition to mainstream schooling, college or work.
